The annual cargo shipment in Shanghai Pudong International Airport reaches 2.9285 million tons, making it the 3rd among world counterparts for the 6th consecutive years, according to the rank released by the Airports Council International (ACI).
Hong Kong International Airport ranks 1st with an annual cargo throughput of 4.1561 million tons, while Memphis International Airport of the United States is the runner-up with a figure of 4.1379 million tons.
In 2013, the Pudong airport handled 47.1898 million passengers and is the 21st on world ranking.
If we combine the number of passengers in Pudong airport and the Hongqiao International Airport, we’ll find Shanghai’s annual airborne passengers have reached 82.7918 million, which puts it on the 7th ranking in cities around the globe.
The global passenger transportation serves 5.38 billion people in 2013, a year-on-year increase of 3.9%; global cargo shipment sees a year-on-year increase of 0.7% and reaches 86.868 million tones; flights reaches 66.201 million with a year-on-year increase of 0.1%, according to the ACI’s analysis.
The Middle-East, Pacific-Asia and the Latin Americas boast the fastest growth in passenger transportation, increasing 9.2%,7.4% and 5.7% respectively while accounting for 40% of the world’s total amount.
The world’s cargo shipment sees a small increase with Asia-Pacific presenting slow growth and the Europe in climb after bottoming-out. These two areas account for 55% of the world’s total cargo shipment.
